Back in 2004 the Atlanta hobbyists & collectors convention JoeLanta added a short film contest to its program, and the show-runners invited their clubmember and friend Adam Hughes to help inaugurate it with an entry. With little spare time, Adam called me with an idea to create a film trailer only, featuring customized action figures Lara Croft and thugs. (Since the early ’90s we had collaborated on cheerful video & photography projects, and also shared a keen interest in filmmaking and toys.) Adam put together characters, environments and vehicles, got a camera, we staged and shot “set pieces” typical to film trailers, then digitally edited and FX-ed a contest entry, and won.

That’s about the speed at which it all happened! In a cereal-fueled whirlwind we literally worked ’til the last minute, and there was a lot of content shot that we ran out of time to integrate into the final “trailer”... We were having fun, high on sugar!

About a year later I thought it would be cool to kludge together some kind of actual goofy narrative using all the footage and put the results online. Adam gave his blessing and left the project in my hands. What “cutting-room floor” material was accessible, was embellished and edited into this Teaser and three Chapters (formerly of cursedchest.com, now archived here).
